About the author

Jessie Woodward is a recipe developer, food columnist, and foodie at heart. With degrees in both Journalism and Public Relations, she graduated from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2014, and has worked in those fields within the Food and Beverage industry for over 8 years.

She is an East Coast native currently residing in Northeast Iowa with her husband, Brandon, and their two dogs, Tater and Drake. In 2016, they quit their jobs, packed up all of their belongings, and moved to a state they never even visited before in search for a more simple life. They traded their 1,200 square foot Pennsylvania apartment for an old Iowa farm house rental on a 1,200 acre dairy farm, but having since bought their own home.

Jessie has been cooking with fresh local ingredients most of her life, and even more so since moving to Iowa as she met and built relationships with local farmers. Her total community reaches over 30,000 between her two food columns, blog, and social media channels - inspiring others to reconnect with food and mealtime.

Synopsis

Hangry [hang - ree] adj. a state of anger by lack of food; hunger causing a change in emotional state. Have you ever experienced the hangry? Have you ever said or done something that you then regretted because you had not eaten yet? Or, have you ever been on the receiving end of a hangry loved one because dinner wasn’t ready or because they didn’t like what was cooked?

A poll conducted in 2014 by The Harris Poll found that more than half of adults felt as if they shared fewer meals with loved ones now than when they were growing up. Even more so, half of those polled said that finding recipes that everyone will enjoy is a struggle. If we are able to get simple, nutrient-dense, and delicious meals to the table quickly, we’d be more inclined to sit down and eat together. Sometimes, we get so caught up in life that we forget to slow down and enjoy meals together. Food is such an important part of who we are. Food prevents hanger, food connects people, food tells stories, food is what allows us to put aside differences and troubles for just one hour and sit down and make memories. 92% of people whose households sit down for one or more family meals per week describe them as something that they look forward to. And, eight in ten people said that they have fond memories of their family meals growing up.

The Hangry Diaries cookbook is the perfect combination of farm-to-table meets comfort food. And what that means is taking fresh, seasonal ingredients and transforming them into a meal that is familiar to everyone sitting around the dinner table. My husband has celiac disease, so by utilizing fresh, whole ingredients in my kitchen, it allows our meals to be naturally gluten free, full of whole nutrients, and therefore healthier than their convenience counterparts. For example, whipping up a garden-style mac and cheese loaded with seasonal veggies versus a boxed mac and cheese with powdered ‘cheese.’ These recipes are soul satisfying while fueling your family for whatever life throws at them. Not to mention, these nutrient-dense meals make you feel good, too!

More importantly, the recipes in this cookbook are simple to create. They are either one of or a combination of the following: 30 minutes or less, 10 ingredients or fewer, one pot meal, and/or utilizing pantry staples. The recipe list includes dishes like, Chicken Parmesan Meatballs, Caprese Macaroni and Cheese, and even Beefy Sheet Pan Totchos.

The Hangry Diaries started by Jessie Woodward to help foodies everywhere get food on the table quickly that was healthier than convenience foods and soul satisfying. Her mission was to conquer hanger one recipe at a time. This community has since grown to over 30,000 between her two recipe columns, blog, and social channels. Jessie has been transforming farm fresh, local ingredients into delicious recipes for over 14 years. While she has moved away from the ocean and moved inland to the Midwest, readers are sure to find something in this cookbook that you and your family will enjoy.

Jessica Woodward has been writing a weekly food column for the Driftless Journal since early 2020. Called The Driftless Foodie, each column features a cooking tip, a recipe and personal reflections on the week’s dish and on food in general.

Jessica’s recipes always offer experienced cooks something new to think about or try -- but they’re accessible to novice cooks, as well. Her stories are warm, funny and always instructive. Our readers love her, and look forward to her column – the recipes, the cooking tips and the adventures in cooking and eating – every week. And her photographs are gorgeous.

1106 Design, LLC logo 1106 Design, LLC

Dear Author,

You worked hard to write your manuscript; finally, it's ready to release. You know that expert assistance is needed, but perhaps you didn’t know that it’s no longer necessary to work with a publisher—especially publishers who charge fees to produce your book upfront and deduct more costs on the back end whenever a book is sold.

1106 Design is an author services company. We provide all the editorial and design services you’d expect from a publisher to turn your manuscript into a market-ready book—editing, cover design, interior layout, proofreading, eBook formatting, and more—at the traditional publisher level. Unlike a publisher, we’ll help you obtain print-on-demand printing and worldwide distribution in your name so that you earn, in most cases, several dollars more for every book sold instead of a measly “royalty.”

We’ll customize a package of services to suit your exact needs at affordable prices ranging from $4,000 to $10,000, depending on your manuscript's word count and complexity. And we’ll manage all the intricacies of book production, so you don’t have to. After this one-time investment, every penny of net revenue from book sales goes directly to you, never to us.

If this sounds like a better way to publish your book, I invite you to browse our services, design samples, no-surprises pricing, outstanding customer reviews, and educational articles at https://1106design.com.

1106 Design has been in business since 2001 and is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. We are a “Highly Recommended Expert” at IngramSpark.com and rated "Excellent" at Alli, The Alliance for Independent Authors, at SelfPublishingAdvice.org.

How can we serve you today?

At IngramSpark, we work with authors and independent publishers to print their books for orders they need (no minimum order) and we have a way to list the books as available for sale to all of Ingram’s 39,000+ customers- distributors, bookstores, retail outlets, libraries, etc., so you never miss a sale. You would provide us with the print-ready digital files (one for the cover and one for the interior) and we print the books as they are sold through our distribution partner’s websites. We pay you for those sales approximately 90 days later.
