About the author

I have a degree in geophysics and a career in software engineering, but I discovered my passion for photography during a trip to the American Southwest in the early 2000's. It was great to discover all the natural wonders one can find in the national parks, but it was just as great being able to share my best images with friends and family! There was no "social media" back then, but emails worked just fine. From that moment on, photography became my passion and took over most of my free time.

Trips to all corners of the American Southwest followed, as well as annual trips to Europe that continue today. Discovering new places, people and customs is my main focus on these trips.

Some of my photos have been published in magazines such as National Geographic, Popular Photo Magazine, PHOENIX Magazine, The Times (UK) as well as the popular German magazines Hoerzu and Gong. I frequently find my photos shared by National Geographic and many of the Phoenix social media channels.

Synopsis

There are a few good landscape photography books on the market showcasing Arizona's nature, but not many focused on the "golden hour" (sunrises and sunsets) in particular.

This book, Golden Arizona, aims to fill that gap! This is a great opportunity because humans are naturally drawn to the warm light of sunsets which, combined with the colorful and otherworldly rocks of Arizona, makes for very unique photography. Most people rarely have a chance to witness such scenes so introducing them to Arizona and its renowned sunsets is likely to be very successful.

Why Andrei? For the past 12 years he visited all corners of Arizona as a landscape photographer, capturing a lot of this incredible land. As a result, he has a large collection of spectacular photos to share with a larger audience. Andrei has a keen eye for off the beaten track locations such as rarely-seen natural arches or even unique angles of well-known photo spots. Did you know there are a lot of wild horses in Arizona and they thrive even in the harshest desert conditions? That's one the unique photos included in the book that you've seen nowhere else.

While most of the world thinks of Arizona as an arid desert, Andrei's photos show the really wonderful diversity one can find in this land. Andrei's frequent travels to all corners of Arizona during all seasons allow him to capture the landscape at its best during the hottest summers and the coldest winters.

His social media followers, and in particular Instagram, are always excited with his sunset photos so he can easily extrapolate that to the printed media for two main reasons:
a) the larger the print, the more impressive it is! An 8x12" book (or larger) is much better than a small phone screen that never does justice to a landscape photo.
b) landscape photography is best shown in... landscape mode, not portrait, which is how social media is mostly viewed today.

Sales arguments

  • The "golden hour" theme is unique among photography books about Arizona.
  • Arizona coffee table books are very few -- relatively little competition.
  • Andrei's most successful photos on social media include sunsets over the colorful rocks of Arizona.
  • Sunset scenes are naturally appealing to humans due to their warm and vibrant colors, but combined with the colorful and otherworldly rocks of Arizona they are even more impressive.
  • Andrei has over 6500 followers on Instagram and over 500 on Facebook.

  • "Arizona: The Beauty of It All" | Arizona Highways | December 2018 | This book presents great photos in a large landscape format, however it's not focused on a particular subject, but rather "all things Arizona".
  • "Arizona: A Photographic Tribute" | John Annerino | January 2012 | A small format book that includes Arizona landscape photos, but no particular focus and rather poor print quality.
  • "Magic Light: Photographs by Jack Dykinga" | Kelly Vaughn & Jack Dykinga | October 2017 | A photography book by one of the greatest Arizona photographers, however it's printed in a small format (8x8") and the selection is not exactly his best work.
