About the author

Abraham is a writing prodigy who draws his words from a deep desire to change the world through the power of story. "A Light in the Tunnel," is completely unique and can be categorized as a philosophical novel. This is the work of Abraham's life and has been years in the making. The authors own bar for quality is high, and therefore you will be hard pressed to come across any medium which contains a higher saturation of worthwhile substance. Although "A Light in the Tunnel," could easily be split into two or three volumes, Abraham believes strongly in keeping this piece of artwork knit together as one immersive experience for the reader.

Abraham Gordon has been an English teacher in Taiwan, Israel, South Korea, and the United States. He is also a yoga and meditation instructor. The author's experience in various school systems led to the belief that education is a structure which has been tragically overlooked as a key factor toward the achievement of greater species progression. "A Light in the Tunnel" manifested itself from this spark of compulsion to help improve the ways in which our children spend their days, and show the example of a better system, through realistic story.

Abraham's goal for this work was to manifest a novel where the story created the framework to absorb ground-breaking philosophical concepts. While this work is self-help and motivational, it is also a page turning, thrilling experience for the reader.

Synopsis

Reader Reviews:

"This is unlike any fiction book I have read before. Its a book for thinkers and ponderers. It shows us what is capable when we look at the magic of life and the universe. While it may lead itself to a bit of a slower read due to its size, its a phenomenal book that introduces so many great ideas about life, love and the larger framework of our world. A fantastic book to share with friends that are open to conscious conversations and debate. It's also one of those books that you can mark up, journal with and pause and digest after reading some truly revelatory prose."

"The author wrote an engaging, thought provoking, well written story that takes us from our mundane way of life and brings us to a deeper more passionate world. His personal beliefs and philosophy are obviously shared throughout. He creates a utopia which has me yearning for. Well done Mr. Gordon."

"A Light in the Tunnel has a unique slant - a novel that strives to impart daily wisdom into the plot. It’s an excellent book to read for self reflection. The author paints beautiful word pictures with his use of language. I am a voracious reader - generally read mysteries and fantasy - this book does not have the gripping plot line I usually enjoy. It does have fully formed, introspective characters. They very often think or say pithy quotes you might find in a self-help book or philosophical thesis. The advantage of this is the reader stops to think about what was said - the disadvantage is that it slows the pace of reading. I suspect a reader of mostly nonfiction would not find it a disadvantage! I think this would be an excellent choice for a Book Club - there are many points of view to discuss as a male, female, young or older person - and points of view about drugs, politics, marriage, education and life in general."

Synopsis:

"A Light in the Tunnel" tells the story of those trying to find purpose in their lives, and how they discover it through engaging in strategically wise action.  Children who become planetary leaders, a father with unconventional parenting methods, a son bent on reaching his potential, the power of partnership, reforming the education system; all in a gripping story.

This is a tale of a small cohesive unit which takes on transforming one behemoth institution after another. In order to best utilize their time of life, these characters embrace risk as a 'practice for the enlightened.' These realistic heroes take actions of peaceful revolution in order exemplify what it means to live a life of purpose. Most importantly, "A Light in the Tunnel" is about those who attempt to push past social constraints in order to find a life of greater contentment.

Outline

PART 1: FAMILY

Part 1 sets the tone for the current global state of affairs, and the Sol family attempting to live sincerely amid often perplexing social norms. Part 1 provides background information on Daniel (the father) as a child, his two children Peter and Jo as they grow up, and their unconventional family setup. At the conclusion of the section they are shown proof that the health of general culture is in a very scary place. An event propels motivation for future events.

PART II: INTO ADULTHOOD

Part 2 follows Peter Sol into his adult life—his travel, his work, and eventually the finding of a life partner. Through this new relationship, Peter is given the support to take more chances and go after his deeper calling. The nature of this partnership sets the foundation for leadership which will influence great change on a planetary scale.

PART III: THE SCHOOL

Part 3 is the story of building a revolutionary education system. We meet a group of children who will become the next generation of leaders, as they are given support from the Sol's. This section connects strong characters which allows for accomplishments that could never have been achieved without the power of teamwork. We see the creation of a new joyfully directed system of learning.

PART IV: RELIGION

Part 4 addresses the need for greater spirituality in common culture. Peter and Maya decide to take on the creation of a new religion—seeing that a religion of 'choice,' not 'compliance,' is necessary.  Within the futuristic age of greater exposure to information, it seems that the population is thirsty for a new system of community and spiritual connection.

PART V: POLITICS

Part 5 draws the curtain back on much of the uglier side of humanities systems of leadership. Peter and Maya are attacked with shrewd force and search for creative ways to battle back—not only to maintain what they've already created but to engage in new concepts which will alter the culture of politics.

PART VI: THE AGE OF INDIVIDUALITY

Part 6 paints the picture of what is possible if a new crop of leaders are steering the ship of mankind. This is no utopia. Rather, it's the continual process of progression. Part 6 ends well into the future, and gives hope to what might be possible through the engagement of the philosophical concept of 'healthy risk.'

Audience

"A Light in the Tunnel," will be especially intriguing for those who are spiritual, athletic, political, or have an interest in reforming the institution of education. In many ways, it is a work which is 'anti-category.' Although the writing has ideas and a philosophy of great depth, it is also written with a simplicity which does not fly over the head of an average reader.

Promotion

Abraham is currently re-structuring his website to more of a blog format; which will have writings, videos and podcasts. He is in the process of created a youtube channel to lead short meditation and yoga videos to give viewers a quick spark of energy and grounding within their days. Abraham has a strong teaching presence which has the ability to deeply engage the attention of the viewer. At the end of each of these videos will be an opportunity to promote a "A Light in the Tunnel."

A facebook page, as well as instragram and twitter (all specifically for the book) have already been created.

Dear Author,

You worked hard to write your manuscript; finally, it's ready to release. You know that expert assistance is needed, but perhaps you didn’t know that it’s no longer necessary to work with a publisher—especially publishers who charge fees to produce your book upfront and deduct more costs on the back end whenever a book is sold.

1106 Design is an author services company. We provide all the editorial and design services you’d expect from a publisher to turn your manuscript into a market-ready book—editing, cover design, interior layout, proofreading, eBook formatting, and more—at the traditional publisher level. Unlike a publisher, we’ll help you obtain print-on-demand printing and worldwide distribution in your name so that you earn, in most cases, several dollars more for every book sold instead of a measly “royalty.”

We’ll customize a package of services to suit your exact needs at affordable prices ranging from $4,000 to $10,000, depending on your manuscript's word count and complexity. And we’ll manage all the intricacies of book production, so you don’t have to. After this one-time investment, every penny of net revenue from book sales goes directly to you, never to us.

If this sounds like a better way to publish your book, I invite you to browse our services, design samples, no-surprises pricing, outstanding customer reviews, and educational articles at https://1106design.com.

1106 Design has been in business since 2001 and is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. We are a “Highly Recommended Expert” at IngramSpark.com and rated "Excellent" at Alli, The Alliance for Independent Authors, at SelfPublishingAdvice.org.

How can we serve you today?

Tim’s Day

I’m ready, were the first words he thought to himself as soon as he opened his eyes. It was a Monday morning in early April that Timothy Walsh chose for his day. It had been exactly one year ago that he had set himself forward with this particular course of action. His day had finally arrived.

It wasn’t one thing that made Timothy come to the decision to do the things he was about to do. Rather, it was a culmination of the unseen pressure that had been slowly building up for the majority of his life. The lies and the games. The lack of sense in this world. I despise it all.

That so many people couldn’t see outraged him to no end.

As usual, Tim was awakened up by his mother. He took a shower and got dressed. He didn’t bother brushing his teeth, as he knew he would not be needing them much longer. He packed up everything he needed and went downstairs for breakfast. His father was the cook in the house and a good one at that.

Their attempts at fitting in caused Tim to feel justified in loathing those who provided him with abundant amounts of food and protection. They preached to him about the importance of schoolwork and college—doing what was right. They told him life wasn’t supposed to be easy, that you had to make sacrifices. They were consumed by their own images and acted completely differently in public than they did at home; particularly his mother. Tim’s verdict of her was brutal.

She’s all about facade. She won’t make a decision until she’s seen five of her friends make it before her. She doesn’t live by her own set of rules; she lives by what she’s told.

He concluded that any semblance of his parent’s individuality or character had been driven out of them long ago. They claimed to love him, but he didn’t think they even knew what it meant. How can they love someone else when they don’t even like who they are? Pathetic…it’s all so pathetic.

Tim said nothing to them that morning. They were used to his coldness and brushed it off as being typical of teenage growing pains. The Walsh’s were too busy waiting for the day their son would finally start appreciating them, to see him now.

So he grabbed his handsomely packed lunch and the keys to the new car they had bought him for his seventeenth birthday. He took a few deep breaths as he sat down behind the steering wheel, and focused himself before turning on the ignition. This is it. He vibrated with nervous energy. He was scared but as equally determined. He had practiced this moment so many times before in his mind.

With the assistance of music on his drive to school, he started to grow calm. He pulled into the parking lot at 7:38 a.m. Perfect. He parked next to the curb and the parking spot of Mrs. Jones, his biology teacher from last year. He opened the door, stepped out, and caught a smell of pavement mixed with a taste of morning dew.

Tim looked around at his campus—at the trees, buildings, sports fields; at the other kids walking along with their heavy backpacks on and their heads down. He read the words Lawson High School painted on the stones in front of him.

Just another day at school, he thought. No one wants to be here. Little do they know…not just another day. Today’s mine.

The teenager had a secret yearning to make himself known. Everything in his cultural programming told him that he must excel at something. He wasn’t aware of how fully he’d bought into this dangerous, fragile game.

In all the conventional ways like schoolwork or sports, Tim had no chance. He took a crack at being the troublemaker in class, or even the kid who asks a million questions; no luck there either. Instead, all Tim ever seemed able to do was—exactly as he was told.

This day was the result of his crumbling pride.

And there she was, pulling into the parking lot in her big red minivan. Tim waited until she parked—for her to grab her things and get out. Now was the time, his moment; no hesitation.

So he allowed himself to be flung into the continuous action of his previously visualized planning. Tim noticed his feet moving as he ran over to his former teacher and spoke his rehearsed line. “Good morning; you fucking bitch.” Although he spoke the right words, they had none of the venom he hoped for.

Regardless of his tone of voice, Tim pulled the shotgun out from behind his back and shot his old teacher directly in the face. If he had had to have gotten himself messy with using more direct force of strangling or stabbing, there’s no way he could have in that moment. But pulling a trigger is oh such a simple action.

It seemed to all happen in slow motion; the crack of the gun rang hard in his ears, as he watched the bullets rip apart her stunned expression. I’ll never forget that look.

After she fell, he stood there for a moment looking at her mangled face lying on the cold hard pavement. He had dreamed of this moment, coveted it. But staring at her now, Timothy felt only confusion. He was not experiencing the relief or elation that he thought would arrive. He figured he’d be at the very least satisfied, but he didn’t feel that way either. Same as before, he sadly admitted.

He forced himself to move past it—suppressing the feeling and pushing it far down. He had decided that he didn’t care much about what happened after this. Mrs. Jones was the one he really had to get. Sheila Jones was the one who had made the experience of being a student such a nightmare for him. She was the one who looked at him and saw nothing but weakness. She was the one who exploited her position of power. With this childlike craving for revenge, he knew that someday he would flip that power around on her. Today I have. The thought produced a small smile; an itty bitty trickle of brief satisfaction.

In the spur of the moment, Tim decided to run right; toward the side entranceway of the athletic wing. He opened the door, and hustled down the flight of stairs—be like a soldier. They never had any idea what I was capable of. This is me showing them.
