Janet Needham

Janet Needham

Bakersfield, California

Janet Needham is in her early 50’s and married to her best friend, Bill. Janet and Bill love to travel and explore. They have climbed and/or rode to the top of mountains from California, their home state, to Switzerland. They live in the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley surrounded on three sides by beautiful mountains. Janet and Bill have a Soft Tail Deuce and enjoy riding as the valley they live in is central to many interesting places.

When at home Janet is usually reading or working on one of her many creative projects. If you’re anything like Janet you have ideas all the time. Maybe your ideas come to you in the shower, while driving somewhere, while reading a book, or during some other activity. For many of us, it’s not coming up with an idea that’s the hard part, it’s what the heck to do next. Janet loves creating things and almost always has a project or two in the works from clay to drawing or painting to jewelry and sewing. Janet also has worked in advertising, website designing and app development. Janet has her own App Development company called BakersfieldBizApp. As part of her creative nature she loves to write stories, she is always creating stories in her mind and she has a strong desire to write them, to accomplish something that will last many life-times. This is her passion.

Janet's favorite saying is “If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat”.

Janet's personal mission statement is:
I believe success comes from within.
I will grow stronger with each accomplishment, and even stronger with each setback.
I will give thanks in some measurable way each day.
I will laugh every day.
I will live in awe of my good fortune in life.
I will be humble and serve others.
I will live, play and work with renewed spirit.
I believe everything happens for a reason, and there is no better place to be than right here, right now.

Synopsis

The idea for this book first started back in 2004 while I was working for a marketing company.  One of the employees had gone to Quincy for vacation staying at Feather River Bed
Breakfast.  One day she and her husband had gone for a hike and when they came back the area had been cordoned off because listening devices had been found in one of the rooms.  Come to find out the owner had been listening in on all of his quests and the FBI also found dynamite in his basement ... true story.

Outline

Table of Contents with an accompanying paragraph or two ...
Just Kiss Me
"Just Kiss Me,” Goldie Bauman said as she was trying to leave the house.  She felt bad that he could not leave with her right then, but it was not her fault that his work had cancelled his vacation time … again.  Goldie had been planning to get away for several months.  Working for a local media group in Bakersfield keeps her extraordinarily busy.  Goldie stood at the doorway looking up at Zach as she waited patiently for him to say goodbye.  Zach could be stubborn but was, above all, devoted to her.

He reached around her waist and pulled Goldie to him giving her a squeeze and said, “Okay, okay … I’ll meet up with you this weekend.  Do you love me?”

“Always have” replied Goldie.

Feather River Bed Breakfast
Feather River Bed
Breakfast is where Goldie registered to stay.  Goldie got to the place on Jackson Street at 2:10 pm and had missed lunch so she unpacked her clothes and toiletries then headed out to find a place to eat.  She ended up at The Gypsy, by the recommendation of the B
B owner, Zander Voltepec.  Zander told Goldie The Gypsy, owned by Stephanie Markin, was the best place in the county to eat.

Zander winked at her saying, “Besides, she’s a cute little dumpling.  I lost my wife two years ago.  Took me some time to get over my bitterness of losing my love, but Stephanie has made a difference in my life since then.  She has been there for me in thick and thin.  I spent too many days out back behind my shed dosing my pain and loneliness in Whiskey.”

Zander was right, Stephanie was a cute little dumpling with her wide and bright smile.  The closer she got to the café the hungrier she became.  She could smell the food a block away.  The aroma was tantalizing and everything on the menu sounded good.

Falls Leaves
Falls Leaves were blowing in the wind as Goldie left the B
B for the fair grounds.  Before she left she mentioned the “suggestion” from Stephanie to Zander.  Zander sucked in his lips, a peculiar habit, while thinking it over.

“Thanks” he said, “I’ll stop by the café and ask her out.  It’s about time anyways.”

Goldie paid the admission fee to the fair then walked through the midway all the way through before buying anything.  She wanted to see what all there was to offer first.  Every vendor you could think of was there.  There were people galore even for a Monday night.  Stephanie had been right; the fair was really a site to see.  Of the many attractions there was  .............................

The River Rafters
“The River Rafters are always finding interesting things along the river banks. Last year one of the rafting company workers found a large chunk of gold up there.  Terry Taylor is his name.  Sadly, though he has squandered it all away, mostly on drinking.  Now he is the town bum.  An ex-marine, he used to be an outstanding citizen.  He just cannot seem to shake the ‘gold disease’.  He has found more, but nothing as big as his first find.  He refuses to go back to work, says he is going to find more gold and retire rich. Poor fellow, I feel sad for him so I feed him now and then, when he’s sober enough to come into the café without disturbing my other patrons of course.” Stephanie eased up on her previous attitude and related to Goldie not only the gold finds but also several other stories about locals finds along the river.  To say the least, the latest find is the most peculiar.  By what I heard the dead body was of a murdered person, first shot by what may have been a K-98 Mauser before his body was dumped near the river and covered by dirt and leaves.

After Stephanie’s long and almost unending tales Goldie left and drove out of town, sipping on her lemonade.  During the drive Goldie mused about Stephanie’s retelling of the murdered man and wondered how in the world would she hear about the specifics of the man being shot by a K-98 Mauser.

Dynamite
“Dynamite was found in the basement of the Feather River Bed
Breakfast” An officer told Goldie she could not enter the inn until the FBI was finished with their search. “Since you are a guest of the B
B do not leave, we may need to ask you a few questions”.

Goldie was intrigued by all the commotion and chaos while watching all the people; but also a little scared wondering what the heck was going on in this small town especially at the B
B where she had already spent one night.

“Dynamite, What the Heck?” “What if something had happened while I was sleeping?”

The officer replied “Well, Thankfully mam that didn’t happen.”

Before Goldie had a chance to respond the officer exclaimed “Aw … Damn” with an expression on his face as if the devil had popped up right in front of him and a vision of hell frozen over was viewed.  Goldie asked what was wrong.  The officer pointed to a woman approaching and said “The Ice Queen” and “Take some advice from me and watch what you say in front of her”.  Goldie looked in the direction of where the officer had indicated and thought to herself “Wow … what a knock out”.  The approaching woman was tall, athletically built, blond and had huge boobs (prominently displayed).

The Interrogations - Listening Devices
The Interrogations had started.  The sheriff, Goldie and Aziz entered through the back door where the kitchen was.  Agent Franklin notice Aziz walk in and immediately told him he could leave since he had no business in the situation.  Aziz wouldn’t budge though and stated he wanted to stay with Goldie.  Franklin started to man-handle Aziz until Goldie stood up

“Agent please let him stay.  This has been a very disturbing afternoon and Aziz is a comfort to me”.

“Alright, fine”  Then he turned to Aziz and said “But if you become a problem then I will demand that you leave”.

Aziz responded “Why would I become a problem?”

“I know your kind”

Aziz just stared at him knowing exactly what he meant.  Since most people see him as Middle Eastern, most people see him as trouble.  But the fact is he’s a Sikh and Sikh are all for peace.  Sikh’s are nothing like Islamist or Jihadist.  So instead Aziz placed his palms together and simply nodded his head.  Goldie smiled at him wondering what he meant by that and they all sat down to the kitchen table to talk.

Rafting Time
Rafting Time was today Goldie thought as she was showering.  She could not wait, she loved kayaking and she loved being around water, any water.  First, breakfast and then meet with Aziz at 10:00.  Oh Aziz, she had thought about him all night and could hardly think.  Even her phone call with Zach had been hard to concentrate on; she knew Zach sensed her distraction but blew it off knowing Goldie was his and did not have anything reason to worry.  Goldie had tossed and turned most of the night finally having to give in and relieve her pent up sexual tension.  While massaging her pleasure spot visions of Zach, Aziz and Dhillon raced through her mind; also wondering what it would be like to be with all three of them at the same time.  Goldie pulsed with pleasure and for the first time climaxed by her own; the way that only Zach had ever made her cum before.  Finally, she had gone to sleep about 2:00 in the morning.

The Shock
The Shock of the death of her uncle, Judge Matthew Meer, was devastating to Molly.  Molly is the owner of Meer’s Feed Store.  She had just seen him at the fair while visiting the petting zoo she sponsored.  Betty Burg was attempting to comfort her.  “Oh Molly, I’m so sorry to hear about your uncle.  He was such a nice man.  You know, I can still remember when we were just young girls and he would be in town visiting, or working on a case at the courthouse, and he would always have candy in his pocket for us.  Remember?”

“Yeah, I remember.  And, I remember when we were teens and you had a crush on him.  I swear my dad almost banned you from coming over to play when he found out” Said Molly

Despite the sadness of the death, and around the tears Molly was shedding, the two women still laughed remembering their childhood.  “So I wonder who murdered him and why?  Did your uncle have any enemies?  Well, other than those he convicted.  Do you know what is going on?” Betty asked.

“Are you asking as my friend or for an article in your magazine?” Molly asked skeptically.

“Molly … how can you ask such a thing?”

Media Craze
The Media Frenzy was just beginning.  As Betty approached the Gypsy Café two reporters were just opening the door and entering the café.  Betty stopped dead in her tracks.  Not often has Betty ever given her actions a second thought.  When she was on assignment, she was always determined and precise in her thoughts, actions and attitude.  There was no story Betty ever held back on; but this is her town, her lovely town.  “Well, no time like the present”.  Betty opened the door and Stephanie was already in her element aggrandizing to the two reporters her point of view.  Betty also saw Goldie sitting at a table with a look on her face that almost made Betty feel sad for her.  Betty did not want to approach Stephanie while she was talking with the reporters so instead she asked Goldie if she could join her.

“I’m not in the mood to deal with your snobbish attitude.”

“How about if I apologize?”

“Really, you apologize?  You don’t strike me as the type to regret anything you do”.

“Normally you would be right.  However, today is different.  There are things happening that even I am having a hard time dealing with right now.  Friends?”

“Sure, why not.  Not that I could manage giving you any comfort myself right now”.

“Want to talk about it?”

The Coroner
The Coroner confirmed Agent Lewis was dead before the fire as part of her skull was missing.  “Looks like she was hit with something big.  May have been a shovel.”

Agent Franklin was pacing in the exam room.  “This situation has just got very personal.  Whoever these bastards are they will pay with their lives.”

“Agent Franklin you need to calm down.  Literally, you are red in the face.  Do you want to be laying here on an adjacent gurney with your friend Agent Lewis?”

“How can I calm down?  Lewis was a good partner, a good friend.  Do you think she suffered?”

“I’ll finish my exam and then call you.  For now, go and get some rest.  I suggest you even take a sleep aid.  I can give you a prescription for Belsomra.”

“No … no drugs for me and no I will not rest either.  Thanks anyway doc.  Call me when you get more info.”

Agent Franklin left the morgue on East Main Street, went to his car and called the field office requesting more agents and an evidence response team to be sent to assist him immediately and regrettably reported Agent Lewis’ death to his director.  “I’ll have a crew heli in within the next half hour then I’ll make arrangements for Agent Lewis’ body”.

“Thank you Director”

Occupiers
“Occupiers calling themselves The Sons of Russia part of the Russian Homestead Group have made a statement claiming they were responsible for the blast.” A newscaster was announcing during a live feed.

“The occupiers are claiming the U.S. is in violation of an agreement made to allow families access to land.  Russian Americans are primarily Americans who trace their ancestry to Russia. The definition can be applied to recent Russian immigrants to the United States, as well as to settlers of 19th-century Russian settlements in northwestern America, which includes today's Alaska, California, Oregon, and Washington.  ...........................

Virtualbookworm Publishing logo Virtualbookworm Publishing

Virtualbookworm (VBW) Publishing was founded by a writer frustrated by the long wait time and occasional heartbreak often associated with the publishing industry. After researching the various "alternatives," he discovered a number of subsidy publishers that would publish any author ... for a price. Unfortunately, many reviewers (and readers) thumb their noses at books from such houses, since all it takes is cash to get published by them.

Then he discovered self publishing and the endless opportunities it presented. However, such a venture requires countless hours of research of printers, proofreaders, artists, etc. And after publication, even more time is consumed trying to market the book.

So, Virtualbookworm.com was established as a "clearinghouse" for authors, since it offers virtually everything under one roof. Although we now charge setup and design fees, those costs are kept to a minimum so as to cover all expenses. And, as with "traditional" publishers, we carefully review each manuscript and only offer contracts to authors who truly have exceptional manuscripts. We don't print garbage, and we want our authors to proudly say they were published by Virtualbookworm. If we accept your book for publication, you can rest assured that it will be sold next to other quality books, and not just work that had enough money behind it. And, you'll receive some of the best royalties in the business!

Since our initial costs are so low, we want your books to sell as much as you do.
